NHL Hockey Western Conference
It's been an interesting year for the NHL, particularly in the Western Conference. Who would have predicted that 14 games in that the Colorado Avalanche would be leading the conference? On the same note, most people predicted that the Phoenix Coyotes would be on the floor if the western conferece-not in 4rth place for sure. However, there's still a long hockey season ahead of us.
For every team such as the Colorado Avalanche and the Phoenix Coyotes that are having a surprisingly good season, there's a few teams that have fallen to the bottom. Specifically, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks are currently 2nd last in the conference despite thoughts that they were a playoff team. As well, the Detroit Red Wings are currently 3 spots out of a playoff position in 11th.
Though the San Jose Sharks started off relatively slow with a 4-4 start (.500 hockey), they slowly started their ascension into 2nd in the West. Both Dany Heatley and Joe Thornton have are among the league leaders in scoring.
