Oilers vs. Flames - Battle of Alberta?

The Edmonton Oilers are visiting the Calgary Flames at the Saddledome tonight.  Both teams have struggled tremendously since the month of December.

The Oilers haven't won in January or 2010 for that matter.  Neither have they defeated the Calgary Flames yet this season.

However, the Calgary Flames have just a single win and 2 Bettman points in their past 12 games themselves.  The Oilers have lost 12 consecutive games with 2 Bettman points in the interim.

What happens when suck collides?  Well, for starters, one team will get a win tonight.  The Battle of Alberta has lost something for sure.

Ladislav Smid won't play tonight due to a concussion injury, however, he has Amanda Vanderpool to take care of him (NHL Player Wives).

Oilers Last Place In Western Conference

Okay, I am not saying that I agree with the message, but this is a pretty funny YouTube from about a year ago.  The Oilers have lost four games straight as they will face Minnesota tonight.

It's worth a laugh, I hope.  This guy's a tool and he almost burns down his back yard.

Oilers News and Trade Rumors

Oilers News and Trade Rumors

The Oilers are Struggling with a tough stretch of games ahead:  as per TSN.  Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson scoring update.
Ales Hemsky is reportedly headed for an MRI today following the hit from behind that occurred in last night's game.  From the Oilers website, they've recalled O'Marra and McDonald.

From The Hockey News:  Oilers Watch, Time for Excuses is over!

So the season isn’t going along very swimmingly for the Oilers so far, but that’s not exactly news, is it? Edmonton has lost four straight and seven of the past eight. Were it not for the incompetence of the rival Minnesota Wild, the Oilers would be sitting square in the basement of the Northwest Division.
From the Vancouver Sun:  Devan Dubnyk gets ready for backup role on Oilers.

Mike Comrie's got Mono?

In today's news, it's been reported that Mike Comrie of the Edmonton Oilers has recently been diagnosed with Mononucleosis.  It's expected that Comrie will be out of the Edmonton Oilers lineup for at least the next four weeks if not more.

Mike Comrie's already missed a number of games with symptoms thought to be related to the Flu.  As well, Mike Comrie's got asthma which complicates things further.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Colorado Avalanche - November 18, 2009 - Rexall Place

Colorado Avalanche at Rexall Place - November 18, 2009.

The Edmonton Oilers will host the Colorado Avalanche today at Rexall Place.  The game starts at 7:00 pm and the game will be available on TSN-for a pleasant change.  I don't think that too many people will miss paying nearly $20 bucks for the HD PPV--especially considering how bad the PPV product sucks.  Oh, and given that the Oilers can't win a hockey game, why shell out hard-earned cash to watch your team lose?

Back to the game...  The season series is split at one game a piece.  Let's face it, Colorado's simply a better hockey team.  Hell, unlike the Oilers, they can actually beat the Flames!

The Oilers have been crying about player injuries, but many of the players on the list at this point are either role-players like JF Jacques, Ryan Stone, Fernando Pisani, or simply guys that haven't learned how to play NHL hockey yet--like Robert Nilsson or Marc Pouliot.  Stop crying!  Look at who the Penguins are missing from their lineup.

The Avs have had a few injury problems themselves.  David Jones got rocked in the dying minutes of last night's game.

Here's a look at the Avalanches' projected lineup:

John-Michael Liles, who has been out three games with a shoulder injury, and T.J. Galiardi, who has sat out seven games with an ankle injury, participated in no-contact drills at practice on Monday, and are traveling with the club on their current road trip. Neither will suit up tonight against the Flames. - Denver Post

Projected's Lines vs. Flames
Forwards:
Wolski – Stastny – Jones
Tucker – Duchene – Hejduk
McLeod – O’Reilly – Svatos
Koci – Hendricks – Stewart
Defencemen:
Clark – Cuminskey
Foote – Hannan
Preissing – Quincey

NHL Trade rumor Alexander Frolov to Montreal?

Kostitsyns for Alexander Frolov--NHL Trade Rumors.

The Hockey News is reporting a new NHL trade rumor that suggests that disgruntled LA King, Alexander Frolov (Is Frolov short for FROm Russia with LOVe?) might be traded to the Montreal Canadiens? Who would LA get back in return? Who do you think? A pair of disgruntled Russians--Sergie and Andrei Kostitsyn. As the old idiom suggests... One man's garbage is another man's treasure.

Why should you care?

Alexander Frolov has also been linked to the Edmonton Oilers in the same article:

Frolov has also been linked to the Edmonton Oilers and Chicago Blackhawks, but suggesting a one-game benching means Frolov is on the block is a bit of a stretch. He’s an unrestricted free agent next summer and it’s quite possible, given the Kings’ depth in budding talent, he might not fit into their future plans.
